The 1857 Minnesota census showed Henry Sohns (age 33, born in Germany) married to Teresia (age 30, born in Germany) and living in Carver, Carver County, Minnesota. Children Henry (age 3, born in Minnesota), Ana (age 1, born in Minnesota), and Alford (age 6 months, born in Minnesota) also lived with the couple.

The 1870 United States census showed Henry Sohns (age 47, born in Germany, boarding house) married to Josephine (age 50, born in Germany) and living in Junction City, Davis County, Kansas. Children Henry (age 16, born in Minnesota), Anne (age 14, born in Minnesota), Alfred (age 12, born in Minnesota), Tracy (age 11, born in Minnesota), Rudolph (age 8, born in Minnesota), Oscar (age 5, born in Kansas), and Emma (age 3, born in Kansas) also lived with the couple.

The 1880 United States census showed Henry Sohns (age 56, born in Germany) married to Josephine (age 65, born in Germany) and living in Junction City, Davis County, Kansas.
