In my research into the Chaska brickyards, I went through the weekly newspapers from the area several times. Brick was used in many of the early buildings in the Carver and Scott county area. Brick was usually the material used in many of these original buildings, because it was fire-proof and lasted a long time. When a town began to grow, it usually had flour mills, lumber mills, breweries, and general stores. Many of these original buildings are no longer around, but the stories of their origin and construction remain interesting.
