Bernhardt Soice was born April 10, 1825, in Germany.
The 1860 United States census showed Berhhard Soice (age 35, born in Germany, farmer) married to Dorothea (age 31, born in Germany) and living in Chaska, Carver County, Minnesota. Children John (age 9, born in Indiana), Elisabeth (age 6, born in Indiana), Catharina (age 3, born in Indiana), and Mary Ellen (age 4 months, born in Minnesota) also lived with the couple.
We are informed that Mr. Soice has made sale of fifty-five acres of land improved with a small house and a few acres under the plow, for the sum of $1013.80. The land is within a mile from town. He moves on to another piece of land owned by his brother in Indiana, which he contemplates purchasing. (The Valley Herald, Saturday, September 12, 1863, Page 3)
